Thanksgiving Football Festivities

Turkey Bowl

The Thanksgiving season is upon us! That means it’s time to take part in such time-honored traditions as, gathering ‘round the dinner table with loved ones, tucking into a delicious seasonal spread, and expressing all you’re grateful for. And don’t forget football! The Thanksgiving Day Turkey Bowl game is truly a regional tradition, but how did football get connected to the holiday in the first place?

Historical College Origins

Just six years after America’s very first Thanksgiving, Philadelphia, PA held a football match between The Young American Cricket Club and the Germantown Cricket Club. After this 1869 landmark game, another prominent American city would follow in Philadelphia’s footsteps. From 1876 to 1881, Yale and Princeton would play every year in New York City on Thanksgiving Day, making it clear to see that the holiday match was beginning to stick. When the Intercollegiate Football Association would recognize Thanksgiving Day football as a national event in 1882, the rest was history. Today, watching or playing football on Thanksgiving is as American as apple pie! As for the term “Turkey Bowl”? When high school teams participating in the custom would name their games after the gobbling bird, the phrase simply gained popularity!

Big Game Turkey Bowl

Excited to take part in your own seasonal football festivities? Well, you definitely won’t have any trouble finding football games to watch on Thanksgiving this year! The NFL will host three heart-stopping matches throughout the day: Chicago Bears v. Detroit Lions, Buffalo Bills v. Dallas Cowboys, and New Orleans Saints v. Atlanta Falcons. Click here for their schedules so you can plan ahead to sit back, relax, and enjoy with the family from the comfort of your living room.

Spread the Seasonal Sports Spirit!

While watching from home sure is comfy, especially after tucking into that turkey dinner, viewing the game with some sports fans can truly up the ante. Check out this list for just a selection of local bars open on Thanksgiving, perfect for viewing the game. There, you can sip on a few brews and make some new football friends, and perhaps some friendly rivalries! Rather throw a Turkey Bowl of your own? Organizing a football game with your neighbors from Lodges at Lake Salish at a public park is a great way to get active while staying in the Thanksgiving spirit!

If you’re unsure what day is Thanksgiving 2019, keep November 28th posted up. Whether you prefer to watch the pros duke it out from your sofa, on a barstool with a cocktail or two, or you do decide to toss that pigskin yourself with fellow residents, you might just feel a little closer to the American roots of the holiday this year. Have a happy Turkey Bowl!

Add Fragrances to Your Fairview Apartments

When people think about decorating their apartments, they usually focus on sight instead of the other four senses. Why is that? It’s just as important to live in a place where the ambiance has comforting sounds and smells as well. This year, as you transition from summer to fall, consider filling your apartments with flowers that provide you with a comforting fragrance. Your Fairview apartments will come to life as you bring in flowers and nurture them while they nurture you.

There are quite a few ways you can go when it comes to fragrance for your apartments. These flowers require their own maintenance rituals, which you can find online. They are a wonderful way to bring some much-needed life and soul into your apartment. And depending on which scent you decide on, it can set the entire ambiance for what you’re trying to go for.

For instance, if you want a scent that’s fragrance will leave you feeling refreshed and less anxious, then lavender is a good way to go. Lavender is notorious for having a great impact on one’s mental health and nerves. If you’re looking for something a bit more stimulating, having the smell of a citrus flower can be more beneficial. In fact, if you work from your Fairview apartments, it can be something that helps you get your work done. Finally, if you’re looking for a smell that overpowers all and leaves you with a sense of purity, gardenia might be the best way to go.

When decorating apartments, most people get so fixated on what it looks like that they forget the other senses that truly help create a home. Which fragrant flower will you choose to bring the best out of your Fairview apartments? You’d be surprised in what change of mood and attitude it can bring for you as well.

Go Green in Your Fairview Apartments

Do you find yourself for a way to go green and take care of the environment without even leaving your apartments? If this is the case, then try to consider your daily habits and think about making little tweaks to them. There are lots of little things that you can do in your Fairview apartments without too much effort on your part that will not only help save the environment but save you a bit on utilities down the line. Here are just a few ideas that can help you out:

1. Do your best not to make so much trash. This means to use real dishware instead of paper and plastic plates, forks, and spoons. It means being cognizant of how much toilet paper and tissue paper you go through every day. It means using dishtowels you can rewash instead of paper towels to keep the house clean.
2. Another fun way to go green is to get some small pots and begin to grow your own herbs, seasoning, and veggies in your house. This is relatively easy- something you can simply do some research on online or in-person at Home Depot or Lowe’s for you to have these things ready on demand to reduce gas by driving to the store. It’s also just fun and promotes healthy eating.
3. Use less water if possible, even if you cut your shower time by two minutes.
4. Be mindful of how much electricity you use.
